Restaurants are the premises that sell cooked food and drinks to the consumers within their premises. Moreover, there are several restaurants that provide only food delivery or takeaway service. The FSSAI Service License can be divided into three categories for Restaurants according to their turnover; for those with an annual turnover of less than INR 12 Lakhs, those with an annual turnover between INR 12 Lakhs to INR 20 Crores, those with an annual turnover of more than INR 20 Crores.

Dhaba: A Dhaba is a type of Food Vending Establishment that is usually located near a roadside/ highway. Dhabas are involved in activities like processing, storing, packaging, and selling food products to consumers within their premises or by offering takeaway services.

Boarding Houses: Boarding Houses are commercial buildings that serve food and lodging to paying guests.

Banquet Halls with Food Catering Arrangements: These are large areas, either lawn or a hall that is used for the purpose of hosting parties or events and are also involved in the preparation and serving of food to the guests.

Home Based Canteens/ Dabba Walas: These are individuals or a team that prepare the food on a regular basis and distribute packed meals to their consumers.

Permanent/Temporary Stall Holders: Small covered areas like a booth stand or a compartment that serves packed or freshly prepared food usually on the streets to the consumers are often referred to as stalls.

Food Stalls/ Arrangements in Social Gatherings: These stalls or a small covered area serving food products in a social gathering such as religious gathering, fair, or a function. FSSAI Service License for these stall owners are classified into two categories:

  • Those with an annual turnover of less than INR 12 Lakhs, and
  • Those with an annual turnover of more than INR 12 Lakhs.
